This was a complete design and fabrication project. My favorite part of this project was the live edge bar top. It took me quite a while to find just the right piece to make this part of the design work perfectly.
The bar top includes the largest miter joint I have done to date and a flip-up door with inlaid brass hinges.
The outside of the bar is made of a 6x6 cypress frame with a Spanish cedar panel.
The interior casework is made from 3/4" marine-grade fir ply and long leaf pine to easily withstand decades of outdoor exposure. The doors and couner top were some the first slabs we made out of salvaged scrap wood beginning the train of thought that eventually led us to conceptualize rethunkit.com.
The counter features a hand made copper sink and a sprayer
The doors slide in shop made tracks to avoid all the cumbersome problems of too many hinged doors in a small space.
A mahogany end cap covers up the exposed end grain and gives the counter a sharp, finished look.
Simple stone slabs act as feet lifting the whole piece off the ground.
One of my favorite joints the stacked through mortise and tenon.
