Timber framing has been used for thousands of years, on every continent, in every condition. What makes timber framing different from more typical stud framing is the use of interlocking joinery in larger wooden members. Using even the smallest of timbers makes a dwelling many times stronger than modern standards. Often, timber frames outlive their builders sometimes by many generations, standing as a testament to man’s ingenuity. For those with the future in mind it is an investment worth making.
